"Girls Gone Wild" Creator Arrested at Airport

Joe FrancisJoe Francis was arrested this morning at the Panama City airport TMZ has confirmed, as first reported by PEOPLE.

Francis was reportedly on his way to voluntarily turn himself in, but he was recognized by airport police and arrested there before he reached the Marshal's Office. Francis had been ordered to turn himself in for changing the terms of a settlement deal stemming from a 2003 lawsuit in which seven women accused him of victimizing them by filming them in sexual situations while they were on spring break in Panama City.

Francis, creator of the popular "Girls Gone Wild" series, had until noon Thursday to turn himself in, but PEOPLE says that Francis missed the deadline.

UPDATE:
A spokesman for Francis told the AP that the GGW mogul will likely stay behind bars until Thursday, when he is scheduled to face off with a federal judge.

46. First off - goofy - a lot is two words, try and remember and patty - you seem like a CREEPY, WEIRD preacher from some B movie or maybe you saw Footloose one too many times.
Please people, be careful throwing the rape term around, it truely is unresponsible for those that have actually been raped. If Joe truly forced any women to do anything or used drugs to accomplish this, then hopefully he'll spend a little time with Hairy Manback. Otherwise, he's not much different then anybody else who would make money exploiting those who let themselves be exploited. For all you holier than thou, take a look at your own lives and where you get your clothes, who built your home, what stocks you invest in, the food you eat, etc. Think before you speak and keep your rants to a minium you hypocrits.

47. There are a handful of Federal judges who take liberties with issuing bench warrants. Considering that Joe was in mediation for 6 days, incurred $26,000+ in mediation fees and reached a settlement as reported by his attorney on Greta Van Sustren's On The Record Show on Fox last night, this judge will face the music when the appeals court rules on Francis' motion which was filed yesterday. The judge had only one remedy available in a civil case and this is to order both parties to trial, assuming no settlement was reached.

48. True the guy is a predator and should be penalized. But what makes this incident so different than any other porn you see? As stated previously, the girls know what they're doing and probably sign an agreement prior or after the filming. Girls need to realize how stupid they are for acting this way but also aware of people like this guy. Also, alot of girls LIKE to be exhibitionists for some stupid reason and in that case, they get what they deserve.

49. We were just discussing this "show" the other day. I am a fairly open minded woman and have to laugh at these women that allow themselves to be on this show. They know what they are doing and its obviously very fun to show off what they have and touch and make out with other women. They are in NO WAY forced to be on this show, they get what they deserve and should not be allowed to sue anyone in court over their own stupidity. These men are making alot of money off these dumb, slutty and sickening women, Who can blame them for being very smart at making money!? Isn't that the way our world works today? And as far as "who buys or watches this", considering the lawsuit going on, I would say someone's daddy was watching late night television, it was cool until they seen their little baby on TV.

50. This guy is scum no doubt, but these girl did this on their own and being scum does not make you a criminal. I remember enough of college to remember picking a couple of my female friends off of front yards and dragging them bakc to their dorms. Would anyone be making such a stink if he was filming 17,. 18, 19, 20 year old guys? Probably not, just be a "boys will be boys" thing like that teacher in Florida who got slapped on the wrist for sleeping with a junior high kid.
Just because he is sleaze, does not mean he deserves to be locked up. How about explaining how a 17 year old girl was alegedly smashed enough to pose for him? Any thought to their behavior? Any repsonsibility there?

51. Why all the hostility people? Pornography is legal in the USA and is a larger business than all of Professional Sports combined.

Girls with fake I.D. wanting to make their rep and get cash should not be placed in the same league as the majority of young women in America who would never stoop so low as to even consider being videotaped for "Girls Gone Wild".

This is only a civil case.

52. Predators should be locked up. Mr Francis is the poster boy for Predators.

53. There's something incredibly wrong with our society today when young women think it's 'cool' to get drunk and then videotaped flashing people and in sexual situations. The young girls have their values all screwed up and they should not be defended for their actions, but neither should Joe Francis for taking advantage of these young girls and exploiting them. He's getting exactly what he has coming to him. Seems to me that he was on his way out of town, rather than on his way to turn himself in.

54. It seems there are a few not so intelligent people who have missed the entire point to the judge's action. The judge jailed him for contempt of court for not settling with the girls. There is not law that says you have to settle with someone. This is dangerous territory for all of us. While you're calling Joe Francis names, remember, if you have a car accident that may or may not be your fault, instead of the other driver suiing you and you being able to defend yourself - you could be sent to jail for not paying them the settlement amount they want. I think the problem here is a power hungry judge. No matter what Joe Francis did or did not do - he has a right to expect equal treatment under the law.

55. its a shame that the women who post here and are so adamit about posting dont have anything better to do, i like barbara rose's post, hopefully she really is a woman.....but for the housewifes who are just watching soap opera's and waiting for the next thing to come out on tmz.com (probably the dna results....ooooooo big story) go cry and sob someplace else, u have the right but....dont complain when your husband oggles other women bc u berate him into thinking that sex only happens once a year, or for procreation...man, i sympathize with your husbands and if i ever met any of them at a bar, id bring them to scores in nyc and let them oggle the women there.
Joe ran a business, porn is legal in america, get over yourselves, girls gone wild has been around for a good amount of time, and boo hoo to the girls and their parents who are embarassed that their daughters would do something like that, they know what happens at spring break, they just dont want to realize that their "princess" is all grownz up....talk amognst yourselves, im done with this comment on this picture. I'm PRO JOE FRANCIS!!!!!!

56. mane companies make lots of money because of stupid people all the time. thats all he was doing. These girls are not victims they are drunken college idiots. They chose to get drunk and expose themselves, he is just making a profit from it. It is not the bars fault when someone gets drunk and drives. In the same way it is not his fault when some girl gets drunk and takes her top off. There are shows on many channels that exploit the drunk driver footage, how is this different. Worlds scarriest police chases, ECT.

57. I went to Catholic school with Joe Francis in Newport Beach and he was the freak of the school. He was in my class and he had an out of control ADD personality and no friends. He was like a big rabid dog that breathed in peoples faces and needed to be tranquilized. His mom would bring McDonalds to school to try to bribe people to be his friends. No surprise that he turned into a famous pervert pariah.

58. He went to my Catholic school in Newport Beach and was in my class. He was the freak of the school and was all ADD hiding in the girl's bathroom with no friends. Everyone hated him and beat him up. He came from a rich family but all his mom's bribing with McDonals and crap still couldn't buy him friends. Now look at him. A famous pervert who pops pills to kill his pain.

59. To 56 Bubba - Yeah, the young girls need better role models. All they really want is a boyfriend, and these poor media examples (Fergie et al) have them thinking that this is how to be, and this is what you do to get one. I really don't believe they know what they're doing, and mom & dad are both semi-ignorant and in denial, off working and not advising as it takes two incomes these days to raise a family. Once these girls hit their twenties I feel they know enough to decide whether to pose for these degenerates or not, but before that age I feel they are vulnerable, and that we should do more as a society to protect our vulnerable young from these amoral profiteers simply because it's the right thing to do. You can sure tell Joe Francis isn't raising a daughter.

60. Joe Francis will continue to rot in a Federal jail in Panama City until at least Thursday when a bail hearing is set for 1 p.m.
